Lim Siong Guan: THE LEADER, THE TEACHER, & YOU: LEADERSHIP THROUGH THE THIRD GENERATION
Group President, Government of Singapore Investment Corporation (27 Mar 2014)

About the Talk

Can a legacy survive the third generation?

Alluding to the Chinese idiom that the third generation squanders away the 'wealth' built by the first and second generations, Lim Siong Guan examines this searching question in the context of leadership.

In the last 50 years, we have seen a sea-change in the social, economic and political realities.  The political leadership has been under constant pressure to adapt its style in response, while guarding the core qualities that brought us this far.  The tension between these poles is palpable.  What is needed to walk the tight rope and not lose your footing, or bearing?  Is "purpose-driven" leadership the key?

Join the former Head of the Civil Service as he invokes his many years of stewardship under three Prime Ministers to tell us about this values-based and other-centred leadership - that asserts that the greatest wealth of the first and second generations must be the third generation itself.
