Dr. Noeleen Heyzer: Freedom from Want, Freedom from Fear
Under-Secretary General of the United Nations and Executive Secretary of ESCAP (27 Jan 2011)
  • We at the United Nations understand that poverty is not just a lack of income, it is also a lack of choice, voice and security.
  • Work with your heart and work with your internal compass...
  • …to transform your environment, you have to transform yourself.
  • We at the United Nations understand that poverty is not just a lack of income, it is also a lack of choice, voice and security.
  • One of the things that I've tried to do is to look for the light and the best in human beings, and to make sure that all of that light becomes the leadership for the world.
  • It is not acceptable for women to constitute 70 percent of the world's 1.3 billion poor.
  • One of the things that I've tried to do in my life is to look for the light and the best in human beings, and to make sure that all of that light becomes the leadership for the world.
  • Our challenge (today) is to find one shared humanity in the face of our diversity.
