Madam Halimah Yacob: A Voice for the Voiceless

About the Speaker

Mdm Halimah Yacob,is the ninth Speaker of Parliament and the first woman to hold this post in Singapore’s history. She also served as Minister of State at the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports from 2011 to 2013 and has been a Member of Parliament (MP) representing the Jurong Group Representation Constituency since 2001.

She also serves as Assistant Secretary General of NTUC and is also responsible for Legal Services, Women and Industrial Relations in the Public Sector.  

Mdm Halimah has extensive grassroots experience in the labour movement and works closely with the union leaders, particularly as their legal advisor. Being responsible for women's affairs in NTUC, she is committed to providing better opportunities for women at all levels and in ensuring a strong voice for women in the workforce.

Mdm Halimah holds a Master of Laws Degree from the National University of Singapore and was called to the Singapore Bar in 1981.
