About the Speaker

Tan Bee Thiam is an educator, a film historian and filmmaker. He is a senior lecturer with the Singapore Polytechnic. He is the editor of Cinemas of Asia, the Journal of the Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema (NETPAC). A founding member of the film collective, 13 Little Pictures (13littlepictures.com), he is the producer of Red Dragonflies (Special Jury Prize, Jeonju International Film Festival), White Days (Audience Prize, Berlin Hot Shots) and Yellow Flowers (Asian Project Market Selection, Busan International Film Festival).

He has served as the Manfred Salzegeber jury for the Berlin International Film Festival and the NETPAC jury chair at the Locarno and Golden Horse Film Festival. He is the founder of the Asian Film Archive and has served as co-chair of the Coordinating Council of Audiovisual Archive Associations, working with UNESCO on the preservation of the world's audiovisual heritage.
