Tin Pei Ling: Failing Forward

About the Speaker

Tin Pei Ling is currently the youngest elected Member of Parliament in Singapore and represents the Marine Parade GRC (MacPherson). She also sits on the Government Parliamentary Committee for Health, Home Affairs and Law. She is interested in diverse topics, particularly issues relating to youth, elderly and mental health.

Pei Ling was deeply involved in grassroots, community and youth volunteer work for more than 7 years before she was elected into Parliament. She started as a volunteer in 2004 at Ulu Pandan District’s weekly Meet-the-People Session, where residents approach their local Member of Parliament for help with their problems. Her volunteer work showed her the urgent and diverse needs within the community and nurtured in her a strong belief and commitment to serve. Some of her other key involvements included chairing the organising committee of the National Youth Forum 2006, organising the 5th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Youth in 2007, and serving on the Youth Olympic Games 2010 Youth Engagement Committee.

Pei Ling is an alumnus of Crescent Girls’ School, Hwa Chong Junior College and National University of Singapore, where she was in the Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences and the University Scholars Programme. She was an active student and received several awards, including 2 NUS Student Achievement Awards and the Crescentian of the Year 2000 award – an annual award for the top graduating student with all-rounded achievements in CGS. She had completed her Masters in the University of Chicago, Booth School of Business. Pei Ling worked at Ernst & Young Advisory Pte Ltd for over 4 years prior to GE in May 2011.

Pei Ling enjoys meeting and building friendships with Singaporeans of all backgrounds. She has a strong passion for Singapore and believes that every individual has a responsibility towards moulding the destiny of his/her country.
