Dr Yeo Sze Ling : How Does the Visually Impaired Dream?

About the Speaker

Dr Yeo Sze Ling graduated from the National University of Singapore with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics in 2001 and completed her PhD in 2006.

Blind since the age of four, Dr Yeo is now a research scientist with A*STAR’s Institute of Infocomm Research as well as an adjunct assistant professor at Nanyang Technological University. Her research interests include function field theory and its applications;algebraic coding theory; and mathematical applications to cryptography.

During Dr Yeo’s years at NUS, she received a string of honours including the NSTB Gold Medal (2001) for being the top undergraduate of the Faculty of Science, the Leong Teng Kiang Memorial Price, the Singapore Mathematical Society Book Prize and the Singapore Mathematical Society Gold Medal.

Dr Yeo has a particular interest in helping youth. A member of the Serangoon Junior College advisory committee, she also volunteers with the Society for the Physically Disabled. Besides speaking regularly at schools and youth events, she also mentors and tutors visually handicapped students.
