About the Speaker

Aseem K Thakur (Engineering, ’09) is the co-founder of an online philanthropic platform, which allows individuals and communities to raise funds for their favorite charitable causes in a simple, fun and effective way.

In 2008, Aseem along with fellow NUS student Yu Ming had the bright idea to set up a website that linked various charities to individuals who wanted to make a difference. Getting the initial start up money from their professor who believed in the idea, Aseem and the rest of his team worked hard to establish themselves to create an organization that would eventually garner over 1 million dollars worth of donations for various Singapore charities.

Aseem is no stranger to the world of entrepreneurship. Whilst still a student, he (along with long time friend, Yu Ming) set up ‘Jumbo Supper’- A student run venture providing supper delivery to the university hostel residents. Learning invaluable business lessons from his first taste of being an entrepreneur, he went on to participate in the NUS Overseas College Program (NOC) where he worked with US based start-up Voyage Medical Inc. USA and read entrepreneurial modules at Stanford University. While in Silicon Valley, Aseem was a co-inventor of two patents.
